Public Chamber University trains NGO leaders

NGO leaders receive training at the Public Chamber’s University

The Federation’s Public Chamber will hold its third and final course at the “Sberbank” corporate university in November this year. The second course was on the theme of “effective leadership skills for NGO leaders” and was attended by 100 heads of NGO organisations from 38 Russian regions.


“The term “effectiveness” applies to all countries and is important for State agency management, as well as for regional officials and NGO businesses”, said Alexander Brechalov, Secretary of the Public Chamber.


Brechalov stated that one of the objectives of the Public Chamber’s University was to help NGOs prepare for providing social services to the public. Earlier this month, the Russian President signed off the NGO “Providers of socially useful services” law, while the Government approved a road map that enables NGOs to gain access to the social services market. “It’ll be up to the NGOs to decide what services they are able to provide as this is essentially a joint venture being undertaken with civil activists. Only a few NGOs are currently able to offer high quality social services, which is why we established the Public Chamber University to give them the necessary skills to do so”, says Brechalov.


The Public Chamber University provides a platform which not only provides training for leaders of well-established organisations, but also for civil activists from small towns and villages, said Alexander Svinin, Director-General of Perspektiva. The second Public Chamber course was attended by NGO leaders from a village in Dagestan and a community in Berezovka in the Karelian Republic, as well as from the towns of Shatsk and Dudinka, he added.  150 civil activists from 40 regions have already received training from the university in developing effective management skills.


Those taking part on the course received information on financing and in developing projects, as well as on promoting themselves as leaders responsible for implementing civil initiatives. They were also given advice on how to work effectively as part of a team.
